ANIMISM OF THE WANDRING EYE
Dialogues of Dense Epistemology Brígida Maestres / Ángela Bonadies – 2024
This is a work made by hand and, of course, as a duo. It arises from the experience of the encounter between the two and with the questions of the real:
-
What is it?
-
What participates in its construction?
-
What role do the senses play?
-
What does it mean to see?
An encounter full of dialogues, which gradually filled with academia, cinema, and photography. It grew denser in strokes and touches, in characters, in bits, and in imagination: in an aesthetic of low vision, renamed as the “animism of the restless eye,” which carries the desire to vindicate BLIND VISION and, correlatively, carries the impetus to dismantle the artifacts that deny this possibility: the oculocentric, rehabilitative, scientistic, and Illuminist modes and knowledges and their sensationalist and disabling practices, which halt and trap lives: with a finger on the forehead in front and the tentacles of a giant squid from behind.
At what moment did the real transform into vision? At what moment did vision become trapped in an eye? At what moment was it said that there were beings without vision? At what moment were they execrated from their participation in the real?
And without noticing, perhaps, that on the periphery of things, the tactile eye expresses itself, precisely, with an overflowing rhythm ready to delineate the world, to make it circulate among all those who aspire to the fullness of experience. To the densification of the real.
Given the oblivion Given the ignominy We have returned to the fundamental questions
