The forests of the Serra de Tramuntana (Mallorca) have undergone significant transformations, closely linked to a range of socio-environmental dynamics, including changes in land use throughout the island’s history. The abandonment of the traditional forest occupations that predominated until the mid-twentieth century is currently one of the main challenges for the conservation of the heritage associated with the Serra de Tramuntana’s forest cultural landscape.
This study highlights the importance of giving greater consideration to the diversity of elements within the forest landscape as key components of the Serra de Tramuntana’s cultural heritage, while also examining some of these components in greater depth through ethnographic research. The aim is to contribute to the preservation of certain forms of intangible heritage associated with the forest landscape and to underscore the urgency of conserving the remaining heritage elements, many of which are at risk of disappearing.
