Nizaiá Cassián Yde

Nizaiá Cassián Yde has a PhD in Social Psychology (UAB) and is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia. She was part of the CareNet research group from 2016 to 2025.

Her academic practice is framed within anti-racist feminist contributions. She researches decolonial geographies, Marxist feminism on the neoliberal city, body-space relations, the precarisation of work and political action. She has participated in research at a national and European level on the ethics of care. Co-author of the book For a Critical Social Action. Tensions in Social Intervention (2019), which critically analyses the power relations, exclusion and ‘governance’ that permeate social intervention. She participates in feminist and migrant self-organisation spaces.

Her thesis articulated the intersection between Urban Studies and decolonial geography, the critical analysis of gentrification, the instrumentalisation of culture in urban transformation processes and its effects on urban dispossession, the racial and colonial hierarchisation of urban spaces, and the whitening through the stripping of public space. Her work is interested in how particular forms of spatialisation relate to the conception and governance of the productive body and urban care infrastructures, generating effects of violence and dispossession, as well as resistance and community self-organisation.
