Iris Mild is a geography student with a minor in political science from the University of Kiel, Germany, currently visiting CareNet. Her research interests revolve around urban dynamics, spatial justice and feminist urbanism, as well as the social dimensions of climate change and environmental inequalities.
Before joining the CareNet group, she completed her bachelor’s thesis, “Feminist Urban Planning and Care Infrastructures in Cities“. In this, she explored gendered spatial practices and feminist approaches to urban planning, with a specific focus on care-related spatial structures.
While working on her thesis, she became increasingly interested in the relationship between social power relations and urban spatial structures. This led her to pursue an internship at CareNet, engaging in applied research with a focus on care-centered approaches to social and environmental inequalities.
Iris is visiting CareNet for a three-month internship through the Erasmus+ program. During this time, she is joining the CIUDEN and the RESIST projects, which focus on the intersection of aging, urbanism, and climate change. Within the CIUDEN project, she takes part in the study of the genealogy and future imaginaries of late-life urbanism along the coast of Barcelona and in nearby coastal towns. Through RESIST, she engages in the communication of research that highlights the social dimensions of climate change adaptation strategies in Catalonia and beyond.
